Cork Rubber
Cork gaskets are used in many engineering industries where they are used underneath compressors and heavy plant machinery to control and reduce noise and vibration. Cork is chemically inert, resistant to fungus and mold growth, flame retardant, anti-static, flexible, and durable.
Cork Gaskets are water-resistant, fire-resistant, buoyant and highly impermeable. Cork is stable and light-weight, and composite cork (cork blended with rubber) offers flexibility and high moisture resistance. Additionally, composite cork can withstand extreme temperatures and offers excellent sound-resistant properties.
With a wide range of uses in both commercial and consumer applications, composite cork gaskets are key where compressibility and flexibility are required, sometimes due to poor bolt loading or uneven sealing surfaces. WIth it’s impressive qualities, composite cork is used widely in the automotive, HVAC, marine, aviation, agricultural, transformer, shipping, and electrical equipment industries. Some applications include bumpers, stripping, spacers, anti-vibration, and electrical transformers.
Cork rubber gaskets, typically composed of 70% cork with a 30% rubber binder (EPDM, Neoprene, Silicone, Nitrile, etc.) have many advantages including the ability to seal and provide chemical compatibility while offering good oil, solvent and fuel resistance.
